Hello there poets, I know its been a while since I updated my blog, (which is against one of the ten commandments of bloggers)। The reason is that I have been researching on scam free poetry competitions for December 2008 to march 2009।below is the list of ongoing poetry competitions http://www.poetrykit.org/comps.htm
Warning; Poets should always be on their guard against p[poetry competitions on the net, especially those that collect entry fees. Most of them are traps laid out by scammers. Below however are the few lists of reputable poetry sites that I can vouch for:
Glendora Review, Flamingo, Atlanta Review, Crazyhorse, Poetry London, Poetic Voices, Poetry Magazine, London Magazine, Blue Moon, Sable, Wasafiri, Coffee Press House, Gargoyle and Abraxas (contact apollopoetry@yahoo.com for more contacts) are few of the many magazines we can get our poetry on.
Poetry competitions such as Poetry Business Competition, Peterloo Poets Open Poetry Competition, Arvon Foundation International Poetry Competition, Cardiff International Poetry Competition, National Poetry Competition and Voices Network International Poetry Competition are just few of the many competitions for poets on the web. One can easily find their websites and submission guidelines through search engines on the net.
poetry writing is like a signature, in the sense that it is like a finger print for a poet. Your poems should be like a hand writing by you, in your own way out expressing your innermost desires and thoughts.
How to write good poetry (continuation to an earlier post)
Tip 6 Get yourself two notebooks strictly for your poem writing. In one of them ensure that your first drafts of poems are first written down in it. Editing and reediting of the poems can be done in it till you get a final draft of the poem. Then, you can now transfer the finished draft to the other notebook which you can called your "hard copy book". In this hard copy book, all finished edited poems would be written down there along with the year and date you gave the poem its final full stop.
It might be a good idea to have your draft book portable, (you never can tell when the inspiration for a poem might come into the head and you might want to carry it about)
Tip 7 Ensure that when writing poems, you use words that properly and correctly convey the theme of your poem. Most poets choose to first of all write down words relating to the theme of their poem down first and string the words together. Although I don’t use this method, the choice of using this method is left to you to decide.
Tip 8 Try to create a senses and swelling of emotions in your readers when they read your poem; try also to deliver all the sense of feelings into your poem. Endeavour to transport all the feelings you had when you wrote down the poem to whoever reads it’s good idea to accomplish this might be to describe what and how you felt when a particular thing occur to you and less of what caused it.
Tip 9 Reading the poems of other poets could be a good way of inspiring and encourage you when writing yours. Critizing the writer of a poem on the basis 5that he or she is young or inexperienced is wrong. In every poem no matter how bad it might look to be, there is still something good and inspiring to be gotten from it.
And lastly remember that at all times: We understand that poetry is a form of artistic expression and that it is not always understood by those who read it. Therefore, dont feel
bad if your poetry is not often appeciated by others, okay/
So what are you waiting for? Go get that pen and pads and write some inspiring words out.
I ask anyone who thinks that his or her poem is inspiring enough to send them to nnamdiosu@gmail.com along with their full names and email addresses. All will be posted on this blog along with the names and email address of the poet. And if the poet prefers, I will ensure it gets published on an online publishing company.
